Description

Kaiser is a turn-based game in the 18th Century plays. The decisions you make will affect the next game year (one game = one year round). At the beginning of each round you have the opportunity to distribute grain to the people and to act with land. After a mid-term (births, deaths, in-and emigrants, and income and expenditure this year's) will appear. Then there is the possibility for tax changes and judicial behavior ("very fair," "Greedy" to) change. Following a map of your country is drawn (info about buildings, cities, wealth, humor, etc.). At the end of the round you can build buildings, wage wars and more.
The main objective of the game is, as soon as possible to be Emperor before the other players. But first you must be promoted eight times and meet certain requirements (25,000 hectares of land fully cultivated, Palace, Cathedral and 100,000 pounds).

With the acquisition of markets and mills the country's economy is boosted. Depending on the number of buildings will change the economic strength of your own kingdom. Take action wrong, this has an impact on the population.

Design

The display is in text mode, the control is easily done with 1 or 2 joysticks. In war mode, a two-part screen is shown with symbols for the Army and cities, about as in war strategy games. When loading and transport solemn Musikschnippsel be played.

The map shows monochromatic buildings and symbols. The palace and the cathedral consist of several elements, which are combined depending on the configuration. Cities have a city wall, but has no other function.

The operation is done exclusively with the joystick.
Before each item, an arrow appears pointing in one of four directions. Moving the joystick in this direction, the respective menu item is selected.
Numbers by adjusting the location (/ Joystick left right) and subsequent increase / decrease the digit of this site (joystick forward / back) changed and confirmed by pressing the fire button.
Information and statistics screens are exited by pressing the fire button.
The score can be saved by "end of turn" the "F1" key is also pressed when selecting the menu item!

Facts and figures

Life expectancy of the Regent: No one can live forever. It is the same with "Emperor". At the beginning of the game the year of death is fixed for all players. There will be approximately 1760-1768, and is same for all players. During the game there are various factors that can change this date. To avoid that a player all tax rates during a turn will change in ever looks at the country overview, etc, a time factor was installed, which is checked after the turn. This factor is approximately 90 seconds. So you should try to consume no more than about 90 seconds for all game actions (except war). Need more, then will that affect your highest attainable age.
Opening balance of each player is 15,000 coins and 10,000 acres of land.
A marketplace (1000 pounds) and a grain mill (2000 pounds) require 1,000 acres of land.
A city consists of at least 5 and 3 grain mills and markets requires 5,000 acres of land.
The palace needs 13,000 hectares of land and consists of 16 parts each of which cost 5000 dollars.
The Cathedral needs 25,000 hectares of land and consists of 14 parts, each 9000 dollars.

 Transport steps:

 Baron or Baroness
 Country count or countess
 Mark count or countess
 Prince or Princess
 Duke or Duchess
 Elector Electress or
King or Queen (only if the palace is finished)
Emperor or Empress (only if the cathedral is finished)
Transport is carried out only for positive cash balance. Later, the population, the number of cities, the palace play a role (eg the king).
Military actions are only as transport stage "Baron" is possible.

The war

After you select who you want to attack, the war is called. Replace now the joystick like that of the attacker to port 1, and the defender receives the printer connected to your computer's joystick port 2.

The war begins with a few questions to the other regents participating in the game. Each of them is asked if he wants to support one of the two contending parties, whether to grant the foreign armies march through his country, or whether he wants to be completely neutral. This option allows you, for example, an alliance with a particular country rulers to respond. Chooses a ruler to support a party, with the exception of the augmentative militia be placed all troops on loan. You can imagine that such support can significantly affect the course of a war. The four possible answers are provided with an arrow pointing left, right, top or bottom marked. Move the joystick in the direction that represents the desired answer. The states that are not governed by a teammate, always behave neutrally.

Now it is checked whether an attack is possible. A country can not of course to all the other countries have a common border. Prussia, for example, has a direct border with Hesse and Bohemia, but not Bavaria. It follows that although Prussia Hesse can attack, but must at least get paid in an attack on the march through Bavaria or Hesse Bohemia. The borders of the states are modeled on historical facts. If unable to attack, the war is canceled and the game continues with the next ruler. Otherwise, the attack vector is shown. Press the fire button to continue. The screen will stay black for about 30 seconds. Have, so please be patient.

After the border area on the screen you can access to the right or left, a legend in which all symbols are shown by moving the joystick. Press the fire button to the setting up of troops to begin. The troops are set according to the list at the top of the screen. First, then, the cavalry units are placed, followed by the artillery, the infantry and militia. The militia is a militia, you automatically depending on the amount of market places and grain mills obtained. To aim better with the artillery, you will see under the table with the troops two beams. They represent the approximate range of fire of artillery to put a troop, run the joystick to the "crosshairs" to the point where they should be placed. Then press to set the force the fire button. To get in larger increments over the map, press the number keys 1-4.

When all troops are set, the war begins. You now have no effect on your troops. Consider the flow of battle, and gather experience for future battles. During the battle you ever get information on the exact numbers of troops losses. If the fight is over, you will get some information about the losses on both sides, and who has won the war. After each slide, press the fire button when you have read it. Finally, the main part is called again and the next player continues the game

Tips from the programmer

The first image is used primarily to supply the population and the purchase of land. But you can speculate very well here also, both with grain as well as country. The prices of grain are in a range between about 20 and 430 thalers. Land prices vary from about 16 to 70 thalers. Buy you a appears favorable price and sell when prices are high. Remember, however, that any sale offer 10% commission will be deducted.

If you only have low grain reserves, and by bad weather the worst harvest precipitates, grain prices are usually very high. If this condition does not improve after 2-3 years, despite the high cost to buy a larger supply. Practice has shown that at least the grain prices are often dropped in this way.
To give your country a reputation beyond national borders, is to consider spending a larger amount of grain to the people, than the amount specified in "Necessary GRAIN". It is worth most, and the first immigrants will not be long in coming. Weigh however, to what extent you spend more grain. If the amount is too low, you may erwaten no big reaction. If you specify too much, which is not always an advantage.

If you have achieved the title of king, you should consider a new compilation of their tax rates. As king, you have greater rights and get even larger amounts in respect of tax or income tax.
At the beginning of the game, the tax revenues keep very limited. To facilitate this phase of building, it is advisable to build mills and marketplaces. You get an extra income in no inconsiderable amount.
When setting up the troops in war, one should postieren each unit as close to the enemy line, because it could happen that a unit does not reach the enemy's territory. Note, however, that the troops march off at the border first. Then this limit is still an artillery section, it may be that bombarding his own troops.

Other Tips

All taxes should be set to 0%, only the income tax to 99%.
Country stores are an excellent source of income. Therefore: Never till the whole country! Could be worth waiting.

For events (eg loss of mills or markets) will be saved automatically.
Always fill the silo with the optimum set the judiciary to "modest".
